New Relic Full-Stack Telemetry and Incident Response Modernization
Introduced a New Relic-based observability model that connected infrastructure, application telemetry, logs in context, and distributed tracing for teams supporting mixed runtime environments.
Technical Implementation
- Rolled out New Relic infrastructure monitoring across Linux hosts and containerized services, then instrumented priority applications with APM agents so host, service, and application telemetry could be viewed through the same operational workflow.
- Enabled logs in context through supported APM agent and infrastructure-agent patterns so engineers could move directly from application errors and traces into the relevant log streams without manual correlation work.
- Used New Relic distributed tracing for the highest-value service paths and built NRQL-backed dashboards and alert conditions around latency, error behavior, and service dependencies so incident responders could see cross-service impact more clearly.
- Validated the rollout with pilot services first, checking trace coverage, log correlation, dashboard usability, and alert signal quality before widening agent deployment and retiring older fragmented monitoring views.
Client Delivery & Handover
The engagement was carried out with application teams, platform engineers, and support leads so the telemetry model matched actual production support and escalation paths. Implementation was phased through pilot services, service-by-service instrumentation, and alert review sessions rather than a single platform cutover. Handover included agent deployment guidance, dashboard and alert documentation, logs-in-context usage notes, and training for both engineering and support teams on how to troubleshoot through the new workflow.
Outcome
The client ended up with a more connected full-stack observability workflow, less manual correlation during incidents, and a clearer path from application symptoms to infrastructure and trace-level evidence.
